Intergenerational Wealth and Family Philanthropy

Experts predict an inevitable transfer of more than $30 trillion to heirs and charitable organizations from Baby Boomers to Gen X. Melissa Levesque of Coastal Community Foundation will talk about what this transfer could mean for your organization, and how to prepare for it. Additionally, she will share habits of families engaging in philanthropy, together. Coastal Community Foundation has seen a trend of donor-advisors thinking about how to involve the next generation, and she will share examples of how families have been working together to achieve philanthropic impact.

Melissa Levesque is the former President of Cornerstone Philanthropic Advisors, having consulted for a portfolio of clients spanning an array of fields and sizes, from local education (Bethesda Academy) to international environmental concerns (Ocean Exchange). Her strategic planning and development consulting work led to the creation of an international entrepreneurship competition at Ocean Exchange, whose funders include Gulfstream Aerospace and Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics. Prior to Cornerstone Philanthropic Advisors, she was the Director of Philanthropic Advisors at the Council on Foundations; the VP of Endowment and Foundation Services for SunTrust Banks in Atlanta from 2003-2005; the Director of Suddes Partners, a national Fundraising Consultant Firm in Atlanta from 2005-2008; and the Chief Operating Officer of DonorsTrust, a multi-million-dollar grantmaking public charity based out of Alexandria, Virginia from 2008-2009. She holds a Masters in Historic Preservation from University of Georgia and a J.D. from University of Georgia School of Law.

As Vice President of Development & Stewardship, Levesque leads Coastal Community Foundation’s efforts to help individuals, corporations and nonprofit organizations reach their philanthropic goals by engaging them with the Foundation and the greater community.
